We had a fun couple of days visiting my parents on their mission in Nauvoo!
The 2 hr flight and 5 hr car ride with 2 small children wasn't exactly "fun", but we survived and were so happy to finally arrive at my parents house :)

The next day we drove a half hour to Carthage. This is where the prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were martyred.

We went on wagon ride around Nauvoo. Abby was a little timid to pet the horses.
views of the temple.
We visited the post office, this is Mike and Abby demonstrating how to carry buckets of water.
My mom was serving at Lands and Records that day so we paid her a visit. We were able to look up one of Mike's ancestors - Anson Call, and see where he lived back in the day.
This is where he lived. Right across the street is Brigham Youngs home, which is still standing today!

We went on a wagon ride - the oxen's names are Hank and Homer

We walked down the trail of hope - the route the pioneers took when they left their homes to cross the mississippi river.
Cool statue of Brigham Young and Joseph Smith. Looking torward the West - Salt Lake Valley which would become their home.
banks of the mississippi. I didn't realize how far the pioneers had to cross on the river.
If the water wasn't frozen they would cross on these barges made to hold your team and wagon.
Quarry where they chisled out limestone to build the temple
Abby loved walking through these gardens. There are a bunch of statues about the role of women.
This was my favorite :)

Grace loved the "walking baby" statue too. She saw it last October and asked me about it when I told her we were going to see the statue garden when we were there in July. Crazy wild memory for a two year old
Sounds like a fun trip. I like the makeshift "crib", good thinking. :)
Wonderful!
